Toyota's 2JZ straight-six is well-known for being strong enough to withstand ridiculous amounts of power. First made famous in the now-collectible Mk4 Supra, the engine has become one of the go-tos for drag racers across the planet for its ability to reliably hold boost, pass after pass. Manufacturers have been making aftermarket 2JZ blocks for years, but Dart Machinery, a well-known maker of drag-racing engine components, has just introduced what it claims to be the strongest aftermarket 2JZ block ever.
Made from cast iron, Dart's 2J block has been given a host of major upgrades to help it stand out from both the stock engine and aftermarket competitors. There are revised coolant passages for improved temperature regulation and aluminum screw-in freeze plugs on the side of each cylinder. The entire crank structure has been redesigned, with four-bolt main caps. Deck thickness has increased, while the block can accept a maximum of 94-millimeter stroke and an 88-millimeter bore, for a total maximum displacement of 3.43 liters.
Dart says with this offering "there has never been a stronger 2J block available," according to a post made to Facebook last week. A bold claim considering competitors like Titan Motorsports and Grannas Racing offer 2JZ blocks made from billet aluminum. The cast iron base means Dart's block will be significantly cheaper than those billet units, though only time will tell if it'll actually be stronger. We'll just have to wait and see.
