LOGAN – A new set of traffic lights will be operational on Oct. 17 in the southeast section of Logan.
The traffic signals are at the intersection of 700 South and 100 East, just north of the blind curve for motorists on 100 East. Industrial Warning Lights
The traffic signals were recently installed there to make that intersection safer for both motorists and pedestrians.
There were stop signs previously on both the eastbound and westbound lanes of 700 South.
Traffic on northbound and southbound lanes of 100 East had the right-of-way and did not have to stop, except for pedestrians in the intersection’s crosswalks.
The speed limit on 100 East was 30 miles per hour and motorist traveling northbound toward downtown Logan could not see around the curve, making that intersection particularly hazardous for pedestrians using its crosswalks.
The intersection was also a problem for motorists traveling westbound from River Heights, because they often could not see oncoming northbound traffic on 100 East until after it rounded the blind curve.
The two-way stop signs on 700 South will be removed prior to the activation of the traffic signals on Oct. 17.
