Ten years ago, Seahawks Legends Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor helped bring Seattle its first-ever championship with a 43-8 Super Bowl XLVIII victory over the Denver Broncos. Now, the pair are paying homage to their playing days with the opening of their new Bellevue restaurant and sports bar Legion, a salute to the historic Legion of Boom defense. 25 Pound Dumbbells
In 2010, the Seahawks handed the keys over to coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider, whose passion for finding talented defensive backs with size led to Seattle selecting the 6-foot-4 Chancellor in 2010 and the 6-foot-3 Sherman a year later. Along with cornerback Brandon Browner and safety Earl Thomas, the extraordinary play of Seattle's secondary quartet would leave both fans and media clamoring to name the group. The Legion of Boom was suggested by a fan, a name encapsulating the pain Seattle’s secondary inflicted on opposing offenses.
In 2015, Chancellor discussed running with the nickname.
"Legion is like a vast army," said Chancellor "We went with Legion of Boom and it kind of fits the description of our unit, our brotherhood of love, trust, honesty, respect. I think all those elements right there create the power in our group. It creates the talent and brings out the talent. It brings out everything in our group."
Between 2011-2017, more Seattle defenders would go by the LOB moniker, but the original four's contributions stand out in the record books. The trio of Sherman, Chancellor and Thomas combined for 14 Pro Bowl selections and six first-team All-Pro nominations in their time together. Following the 2017 season, the LOB would split up, with Sherman joining the San Francisco 49ers and Chancellor being forced to retire from the game due to a neck injury.
But the pair of Sherman and Chancellor have combined to turn the lure and legacy of the LOB into Legion, a 7,500-square-foot restaurant featuring 25 televisions to make it an ideal spot for Seahawks gamedays or other sporting events. Legion opened its doors on Tuesday to patrons, featuring sports bar staples like wings and burgers along with an "elevated soul food" menu of southern tastiness. Executive chef Jacob Howell looks to expand the soul cuisine pallets of patrons with a wide selection of tastes like catfish nuggets and Louisiana barbecue shrimp toast. Legion will open its doors at 5 p.m. until October 8, before switching to an 11 a.m.-midnight schedule for Monday-Saturday and closing at 11 p.m. on Sundays.
